Warped Tour Special - I Call Fives

Picture
More Warped Tour!!! Yayyy!!! This time around we’re discussing I Call Fives.

The pop/punk group from New Jersey have been on the up-and-up for a while now, and their latest album ‘I Call Fives’ (really clever with the titles these ones) is a serving of delicious pop-punkiness (ok, I’m tired). I am all about mixing pop with any genre, and I have always loved pop punk. It’s what got me into all this music business, and I am glad to see the genre continuing in such fun fashion.

I think those were some singles (maybe just buzz singles) from the album. Either way, you get the picture about them and what they’re debut sounds like. I don’t want to talk about them too much (these Warped Tour posts get too long I worry), so know these things: they’re cute, the songs are fun, and it’s a way to be pop and a rocker at the same time. There, three good reasons to listen to I Call Fives
If you liked what you heard, you can buy their debut album now – on Amazon it is only $6 for 12 songs – that’s a steal!

Oh, and if you needed more reasons to like them, here's a quick chat between them and myself. It's hard to tell who is more charming and funny.

1. Cute name. Who chose it and why?

We were originally called Remedy..but there was about 15 other bands with that name, so before our first real tour we knew we had to change it. We couldn't really think of anything and our friend suggested I Call Fives.

2. Congrats on the debut album (OUT NOW!). Tell us a bit about it and what it means to you guys.

It means alot, the band started to some extent about 6 years ago, but we never got the opportunity or had the time to write a full length. We've had constant member changes, label changes, financial setbacks, and just kinda all of the problems that can happen with a band seemed to happen with us. We kept all of those things in mind and really thought on the past few years and that's what the album is mostly based off of. It's funny because most people seem to think that the songs are about girls, but for the most part, none of them are about that. It's cool that it can be interpreted that way, though. We spent 2 1/2 weeks recording in Baltimore, MD with Paul Leavitt producing it and we had a blast.

3. What separates ICF from other pop punk groups out there?

I think we're very reminiscent of an older pop punk style and there's not really many, if any, doing our kind of style of it.

4. Is this your first Warped Tour? How does it feel to be on the tour so known around the world for pop punk?

It is! The closest to playing it we were before was losing the online battle of the bands contest..so it's awesome to actually be apart of the tour.

5. (I ask this of everyone) What are some artists or groups that you're listening to now that we should all go and check out?

Real Friends, With the Punches, Born Without Bones, Heart to Heart

I Call Fives is on Facebook, and I’m sure all the other sites too, but let’s be real, who uses any of thoseeee.

Warped Tour goes from June 16th til August 5th. Tickets are still available, and for a show that has dozens of bands and is going to rock your face off, it ain’t that pricey. Check it out!
