Reviews I May Have Missed In August

I am not always on time with my album reviews (and everything else for that matter), but I’m usually not that bad. I like to revisit every month at the end of the next month (that sounds confusing) to look at a few titles that I missed and quickly touch on them (and that sounds dirty).

What I mean is that when something comes out in August, I’ll try to get to it. If I don’t, then by the end of September I’ll write a little something. Not every album that deserves mention gets one, but I do my best.

There were a couple of albums in August that you all might want to know about, so here they are. And this is just the beginning – September through December are the busiest months of the year for album releases, so you’re all going to get tired of my reviews (if you weren’t already by the 12 reviews I posted this month – not including these!).

Timomatic – ‘Timomatic’

The Australian Taio Cruz (as I have called him many times and will continue to do so) releases his second album in as many years, and there are no surprises here. The CD is a bunch of “get on the floor” single-hopefuls, most of which have no personality and are fairly boring. Yes, they’ll do fine in his homeland, but I can’t imagine anyone else really caring.

‘Timomatic’ is not available in the US.

Listen to: “Can You Feel It” and I think you’re all set.

Youngblood Hawke – ‘Youngblood Hawke’ EP

The alt-rock/indie/pop group (who chatted with Pop! Bang! Boom! in August on the release date of this EP) have debuted pretty well with their self-titled EP. The four songs on here give just a taste of what the group is capable of and is creating quite a bit of buzz, especially lead single “We Come Running” (which we LOVE).

Jessie Ware – ‘Devotion’

British singer-songwriter (AGAIN) Jessie Ware debuts with an extremely impressive LP, ‘Devotion’. The album is hard to describe, and the time period in which it should belong is equally evasive. Part pop, part electronica, part R&B/soul, part…indie? I don’t know. Much of what you hear coming out of ‘Devotion’ sounds like Sade, and it’s pretty much on par in terms of quality too.

Listen to: “Wildest Moments”, “Sweet Talk”, “Taking In Water”, everything else if you liked those.
