Review - Robyn & Royksopp - Do It Again
It’s been four years since the last of Robyn’s ‘Body Talk’ EPs was released, and we’ve been living off them for our underground pop needs ever since. No one can argue her talent, and the same can be said for Royksopp in the electronic world. The two have collaborated twice before (once on a Royksopp album and once on a Robyn EP), so the two coming together for a joint EP seems like a great idea, doesn’t it? Well, unsurprisingly, it is. I mean, DUH. While the press releases I’ve read on the CD say that the combination of Robyn and Royksopp for this project has created a brand new sound, I have to disagree. Lead single “Do It Again” sounds like a Royksopp-produced Robyn single, while the rest plays more like a Royksopp album that happens to feature her. Not that any of that (or any other creation those names would be attached to) is a bad thing of course. My personal favorite is “Sayit”, a semi “duet” between Robyn and a robot she teaches to speak (and a sequel to a past collab between the two, “The Girl and the Robot”) with a killer drop. Listen to: The whole thing, obviously. |
