Review - 3Oh!3 - Omens

I have secretly (or not-so-secretly) been a big 3Oh!3 fan for a number of years now. I actually remember MANY years ago (I was what, 15?) messaging the duo on MYSPACE and telling them how much I liked their song “Don’t Trust Me”…and the lead singer responding! Now, there’s a lot in those sentences that dates them and myself, but it sets the stage for my sometimes inexplicable liking of the band.

3Oh!3’s last album was a lot more fun than anyone gave it a chance to be, and that was a big shame. There were more than a few songs on ‘Streets of Gold’ that totally could have been summer radio hits…had they not come from these obviously two-hit-wonders.

Well, while ‘Streets of Gold’ was a step forward  in terms of radio-friendliness, ‘Omens’ is a reversion to doing whatever the fuck they want, like it or not. The duo’s fourth album is less than stellar, but it does have its moments – both rage-inducing and cringe-worthy.

The electro drops on “You’re Gonna Love This” and “Hungover” would storm dancefloors (if DJs would give them a chance), and songs like “Back To Life” almost make you think there may be more to these boys than drinking and girls, girls, girls.

But just when you think there is more good than mediocre and bad on the album, they have to go and ruin it with album tracks like “Black Hole”, “Go Fuck Yourself” and the abominable “Two Girlfriends”.

If you’re already crazy drunk and you just know vomit is coming soon, than 3Oh!3 is your kind of group (in that moment), and ‘Omens’ has a few tracks that will do you nicely. Other than that, I’d advise staying away…for your health.

Listen to: “Slow Motion”, “You’re Gonna Love This”, “DO OR DIE”, “Back To Life”

PS – except for this part, this review is exactly 303 words. I DIDN’T EVEN MEAN FOR THAT TO HAPPEN.
