Listen Up - Ryan O'Shaughnessy
Well, I’m writing about this boy for obvious reasons.
Ryan O’Shaughnessy is now doing extremely well for himself in Ireland, so it’s time to let you all in on their secret. He was featured on the first season of The Voice Ireland and he recently came in fifth on Britain’s Got Talent. Clearly is he can make it on to both shows (and then place top five in one of them) the boy’s got some talent.
Talent other than being far too adorable to live of course.
His first single “No Name” made it to number three on the Irish charts, and it helped his debut self-titled EP start at number one in his home country (and top ten in the UK – not bad!). The EP is slow and beautiful, and it makes you swoon on every track. Ryan is aiming for your heart, and he gets it pretty easily.
O’Shaughnessy’s (by the way – when was the last time we knew of someone popular who actually had the O’ in their last name? SUPER IRISH.) music is bare and beautifulll. Sometimes he borders on Bon Iver-esque vocal backings (“Waiting”) and other times we’re just hearing the slowest of Jason Mraz’s moments.
Either way, I really like what he’s putting out. I don’t know how long Ryan will be in the limelight, but I can see him having a dedicated fanbase (if only in Ireland) for life, and I sincerely hope he continues making the music I’m hearing here.
