Listen Up - Lawson

Damn. The British are RUNNING shit this year. When was the last time I wrote about a new American band or pop singer?

This time we’re talking about pop rockers Lawson. Every few years we get a completely teenager-friendly group of guys making pop music, only holding guitars. We get a new one every few years because they never really last that long. Think about Boys Like Girls, Lifehouse, Plain White Ts or the Jonas Brothers (HEY – they might make it back!). Maroon 5 has managed to stick around, but they seem to be the exception.

Lawson are pretty brand new to the scene. They formed a few years ago, but their first single only came out this past May. The song, “When She Was Mine”, reached #4 on the UK singles chart. After that came “Taking Over Me” in August. That song did one better, peaking at #3. They have released a third single recently, a track entitled “Standing In The Dark”. The video for the third single is almost done, but we do have a lyric video for while we wait.

Completely inoffensive and more than catchy enough to grab the ears of UK radio listeners, Lawson are doing alright for only three singles out. Their debut album ‘Chapman Square’ will be out sometime in October in the UK.

As for the US – one or two of the singles have been released to US markets, but we obviously haven’t heard anything yet. It is really hard to build a brand new band in two markets at once. Why don’t you boys enjoy some success back at home before we try taking over the world? It worked for The Wanted and One Direction! I’m not saying you won’t be massively successful everywhere, but these things take time. Lord, you’ve only been releasing singles for less than six months!

Talk about ambitious.

Oh, I like a boy with ambition. It’s…hot. And those boys…with their hair and their guitars and their huge ambitions…

Uh oh. Time to end this post.

Anyways, Lawson are online, and you can listen to them and look at them and friend them and look at them and…yeah, time to end this post.
