Listen Up - First Aid Kit

Picture
Pop is my favorite genre for many reasons. I won’t get into all of them now (how much time ya got?!?), but I will tell you one of the most important. Pop music is a very open term; there is so much music that fits under the umbrella of pop, it is hard not to find something you like. From Lady Gaga to Taylor Swift to Bon Iver, there is so much fantastic music that is, in one way or another, ‘pop’.

I usually use this space to write about the kind of music that we all immediately think of when someone says ‘pop’. Danceable, radio friendly, etc. – you know what I mean. While that is usually the focus, I don’t want it to be the only kind of pop that gets attention on here. There is a lot out there (in case you didn’t read the above paragraph).

So, in the spirit of working in a little more guitar music, I would like to introduce you all to First Aid Kit.

First Aid Kit are a female duo from Sweden (where their new album, ‘The Lion’s Roar’ is already at #1) who are really killing it right now. They are folk-pop with country thrown in there (country and folk are good friends, so we often see them together), and the music they make is so lovely. Catchy and very friendly, their music is still deep and meaningful (all while never being too heavy). They have already caught the attention of some of the biggest people in their genre (Bright Eye’s frontman Conor Oberst and Jack White, most notably), and they have toured the world for their last album.

‘The Lion’s Roar’ itself is a spectacular album, and I might have to review it if I find the time. While we wait for that, here are the first two singles from ‘The Lion’s Roar’:

See what I mean? Fantastic.

Find First Aid Kit online, and ‘The Lion’s Roar’ is available in the US now too!
