Listen Up - Donkeyboy
DONKEYBOY. What a great name.
DONKEYBOY (I think they won’t mind if I don’t capitalize it, but it is more fun to do it like this) hail from Norway, and holy crap are they great.
They released their debut back in 2009, and it did really well in Scandinavia and other parts of Europe. Since then, several singles have come out, and now they have graced us with a new album of pop pleasures.
I really really REALLY like DONKEYBOY because they show that you can be a “band” that makes purely pop music, and there is nothing wrong with it. I’m not sure what they all do in it, but that doesn’t really matter (does it, MAROON 5?!?!). They make pop that is lyrically thought out and sonically pleasing. Their style is just so damned catchy and upbeat – how could you not like it? I imagine that this is what Top 40 sounds like in that mythical place they call Scandinavia, but no one has ever gone there and returned, so we have no way of knowing.
I don’t really understand why groups like this don’t make it in the US, but I accept the fact that they don’t. We should start a protest or something. A petition. Or something.
Anyways, take a listen to them. Pretty much everything they have ever put out is fantastic, but I’ve selected a few songs that stand out (singles, you know) and give you an idea of who DONKEYBOY really is.
One more time: DONKEYBOY.
(“Pull of the Eye” and “City Boy” are the newest singles, so they must go first dontchaknow)
So, that’s DONKEYBOY. Well, some of it at least. I’ll probably be posting about them anytime they put up a new single or album or MOVE. Loveee.
