Listen Up - Bebe Black

Picture
This past year (carrying into this year), Lana Del Rey was the big came-out-of-nowhere indie hit. This year also sees Canada’s Carly Rae Jepsen coming out of nowhere to have a worldwide #1. Who’s next? Every year there are a couple names that appear from literally nothing to become almost household names. Some of these are critically acclaimed, some are still underground (but famous…in the underground, if that makes sense). Everyone is always looking for that hot new sound, that special talent hiding out there. Everyone wants to be able to say they knew ________ before it all happened.

Well, I’m not sure who next year’s will be, but I can tell you about maybe 2014’s big explosion. Her name is Bebe Black, and she is just getting started now, so start paying attention.

Bebe hails from (where else) the UK and is just writing and recording demos now. She has never released a proper single or EP or anything, but she does have a live three track demo thingy out that you can download for free. It ain’t much, but it’s a start.

Bebe is one of those people who instantly got snatched up by people and mark my words, before you know it, the blogosphere will be buzzing with the alliterated name of Bebe Black.

Black’s music is pop for sure, but don’t expect any electronica sneaking in there. Think Florence + the Machine, Sia’s older music (“Breathe Me”), or Adele’s “Rumor Has It” style music with catchy lyrics that she penned herself but seem like they were done by a seasoned professional. Bebe’s music is far from uplifting or happy, but at the same time she isn’t using cheap tricks to get you to cry. The music is pure, honest. Understatedly beautiful is what I’d call it.

As I mentioned, she only has two or three tracks out there right now, so here they are.

Both are demos, but you can easily hear the potential in both of them.  As I said, I think this one may take a little while, but don’t think twice – Bebe has the talent to go really far, and I can’t imagine why she wouldn’t.

You can head over to Bebe’s <a href="http://www.bebeblack.com/">website</a> (or <a href="http://www.facebook.com/bebeblackofficial">Facebook</a> to like her) and download her live EP ‘The Black Lion Sessions’ for free.
