LISTEN UP - ALUNAGEORGEWe’ve covered a lot of overseas artists here at Pop!Bang!Boom! and we’re adding another to our list of Londoners.
The electronic duo, made up of vocalist Aluna Francis and producer/everything-else-but-vocals George Reid, has been making their way through the music industry in London since 2009. They have recently started to hit high the music charts with their new singles and collaborations. Their latest song, “Attracting Flies,” along with have a ridiculously catchy pan flute riff, is exactly what you’d want when the music ADD is taking over. Francis’ vocals blend seamlessly with the gritty beats and live-sounding synth lines. Now, all of their songs are definitely good, but some have made more of an impression here at P!B!B!, including “Attracting Flies.” Another song to check out is “Your Drums, Your Love.” The bass is going to make the room shake. If you’re looking for a steadier beat, you’re sure to enjoy “Analyser” off of their Analyser/We Are Chosen EP. It’s not a heavy dance song by any means, but it has that comfortable 4/4 beat everyone likes. While you’re at it, check out the other song on the single, “We Are Chosen” to get a flavor of more experimental type of electronic pop. Alunageorge’s sound has a touch of each of the following: sudden drops, club banging bass lines, sounds reminiscent of Ashanti’s early-2000’s career, and beats that make you want to grind up and dance against EVERYONE. The duo has also noted Mariah Carey and Destiny’s Child as inspirations and influences for their music. Francis’ soulful voice clearly shows the R&B attitude. Alunageorge was recently nominated for a BRIT Awards Critics’ Choice award and came in second for the BBC’s Sound of 2013 award. Clearly, there’s something attractive going on in those sweet, innocent vocals and trippy beats. Their most recent collaboration with the group Disclosure, “White Noise,” reached the number two spot on the singles charts in the UK. Be sure to check out Alunageorge’s remixes of other groups as well, including their remix of “Spectrum” by Florence and the Machine and keep an eye for their upcoming album, Body Music, coming out the first of July, this year.
