Grammys 2014 - Shortlist - Record of the Year

Picture
Record of the Year often gets confused with Song of the Year, so just in case you’re not aware, let me tell you that record is all about the song as a whole; the production, the writing, the vocals--everything. This award goes to the person singing, as well as the producer(s). Song of the Year is just a songwriter’s award, so while the vocal performance may be what brought the words to life, this one is all about the people with the pens in their hands.

Record of the Year is a bit less random, as it usually goes to one of the biggest songs of the year. While every category in the Grammys has five nominees, for the past two years the voters have picked six worthy titles for this one award, and I’m willing to be that trend continues.

The only real surprise (which I myself almost forgot about) in my actual nominees is Adele’s “Skyfall”. The song has already won an Oscar, and the Grammys couldn’t love her any more, so I bet as long as enough people remember this one, it fits in here nicely. I personally think that Pharell might have hurt himself this year by being on two of the biggest tracks. Grammy voters might not want to give him two slots in such a crowded field, so either Daft Punk or Robin Thicke is going to lose out.
