Grammys 2013 - Shortlist - Song of the Year

Picture
Song of the Year nominations can sometimes be very similar to Record of the Year nominations (it does take great songwriting [usually] to make a great record, right?), so I won’t spend tooooooo much time here. I am not so great at seeing the differences between the song and the lyrics, so my list is…exactly the same, save for two entries.

Yes, I know, it’s lazy, but that’s what you get.

Song of the Year
Adele – “Rumor Has It”
Black Keys – “Lonely Boy”
Carly Rae Jepsen – “Call Me Maybe”
Drake – “Take Care (ft. Rihanna)”
Frank Ocean – “Thinkin Bout You”
Florence + the Machine – “Shake It Out”
fun. – “We Are Young (ft. Janelle Monae)”
Gotye – “Somebody That I Used To Know (ft. Kimbra)”
Lana Del Rey – “Video Games”
Miranda Lambert – “Over You”
Mumford & Sons – “I Will Wait”

Remember, this award goes to the songwriters, so there might be some different names winning Grammys that you all don’t know. Don’t fret – the trophy goes home with the right person.

Note: I am putting Gotye on there, but I don’t know if he actually submitted “Somebody” for consideration in this category. See, artists need to submit things for the Grammy voters to pick from – the voters don’t go out there and look for themselves. Artists and their labels will sometimes try to play politics and see if they can make something happen, and I bet that if what I’ve read is true and that he didn’t try for SOTY, it is to throw all possible weight behind his winning Record of the Year.

But, I may be reading spotty information. Who knows.

Note: I don’t know if Adele’s song was submitted either, but I am keeping it here anyways.
