Grammys 2013 - Shortlist - Pop Duo/Group Performance

Picture
I had planned on discussing the pop solo and the pop duo/group performances in the same post, and then I went on and babbled for a few hundred words, so here we are at a second post. Oh well, I won’t feel too bad. I mean, you are here to listen (read) to me talk (read) about pop music.

So, here is my shortlist for the Pop Duo/Group Performance:

fun. – “We Are Young (ft. Janelle Monae)”
Karmin – “Broken Hearted”
One Direction – “What Makes You Beautiful”
Gotye – “Somebody That I Used To Know (ft. Kimbra)”
Florence + the Machine – “Shake It Out”
Maroon 5 – “Payphone (ft. Wiz Khalifa)”
Maroon 5 – “One More Night”
Gym Class Heroes – “Ass Back Home (ft. Neon Hitch)”

I think that Gotye or fun. win this category hands down – but which one? Both have different things going for them, and I don’t know which one I would choose.

I also got to throw a few other treats in here. I would really have liked to have seen Florence + the Machine’s “Shake It Out” win a Grammy, but I just don’t think it’s going to happen. That song was so epic, but it didn’t hit people like it needed to for a push past the megahits that were “Somebody” and “We Are Young”.

I was rather excited to be able to put Karmin on here. I know they won’t get a nomination for Best new Artist (seeing as how their debut EP was fairly panned), but they might actually grab a spot on this tally. Everyone enjoyed “Broken Hearted”, and it was a good pop song, so why not? It may be their one chance at a Grammy nomination, so I would loveee to see them get it (not to mention I just love them).

One Direction and Maroon 5 probably take up two spots, but neither will win. No matter, still nice to be nominated.

Since I’ve gone on too long again, I suppose our discussion of Pop Vocal Album will have to wait!
