Favorite Songs - 10-1 - 2012
I think we’re all happy to see this end. I know I am every year. THIS SHIT TAKES WORK.
I used to put my list of albums up last, as I felt that albums were more important, but these days it seems everyone only cares about singles, singles, singles, so we end our listing with our (my) top ten favorite songs of 2012.
And hey, the world didn’t end, so we’re going to have to start listening for 2013!

10. Scissor Sisters – “Let’s Have a Kiki”
What was just an album track became one of the group’s biggest (and most quoted) songs, all thanks to just a few viral videos (one of which came right from Boston, y’all!).
|
9. Dragonette – “Live In This City”
After Martin Solveig made Dragonette a big name, the group wasted no time in making their poppiest, most single-friendly album to date, led by “Live In This City”.
|
8. Neon Hitch – “Gold (ft. Tyga)”
Neon Hitch has been waiting to happen for some time now, and I was really hoping that this was going to be her breakout solo single. It deserved it!
|
7. Nicki Minaj – “Starships”
“Starships” never hit number one, but it spent almost half a year in the top ten. That’s got to be a record.
|
6. David Guetta – “She Wolf (Falling To Pieces) (ft. Sia)”
This song never happened in the US for the two, whose “Titanium” was much more popular. I feel that this song has much more of a kick to it, and it shows that Sia is no one trick pony.
|
5. Woodkid – “Run Boy Run”
Woodkid is one of the most amazing unknown artists out there, and “Run Boy Run” is his pièce de résistance.
|
4. Azealia Banks – “212 (ft. Lazy Jay)”
Azealia is buzzing louder than…well I don’t know…but this is the song that started it all. Her EP that this song was on was released in 2012, though the song peaked in the UK last year.
|
3. Sara Bareilles – “Once Upon Another Time”
The title track to Sara’s first big EP was a stunning experience, if you let it be.
|
2. Calvin Harris – “Sweet Nothing (ft. Florence Welch)”
Calvin has been making us dance for years now, and every once in a while he shows us a vulnerable moment, made only more impressive by the fact that he does so using a medium where many can only muster club/drinking/sex lyrics. Think of this as “We Found Love” part two.
|
1. Karmin – “Brokenhearted”
I know some people will be bummed to see this sitting at the top spot, but I don’t think I care. This was MY song this year. I think I listened to it every day, and I’m far from tired of it. I have always felt that there was something to writing a perfect bubblegum pop record – the one that everyone can gather around and simply enjoy – and “Brokenhearted” is a perfect example of such a song.

Thanks for reading! See you all next year. Well, tomorrow, but “next year” sounds more dramatic.
