9.6.12 - New Music - Woodkid

When I last wrote about Woodkid, I thought he had hit his pinnacle. I mean, surely there was no way he could top his unbelievably epic single “Iron”.

Well, I don’t know if his new single “Run Boy Run” beats “Iron”, but it is at least as amazing (if not infinitely better).

Writing about this song is difficult, as I like to keep my single reviews really short, and I could talk about this for days.

Literally everything about this is perfect. This may be one of the most epic things I’ve ever heard and seen in all my time writing about music. The grandeur of the drums and the orchestration could put Kanye West to shame. The simplicity of the lyrics almost has them getting lost amongst all the percussive havoc that Woodkid is producing all around you, but then you realize they are affecting you more than you knew.

Then there’s the video, which I can barely even speak about. Stunning. Beautiful. I don’t remember the last time I called something a masterpiece, but here one is. The word “art” is thrown around a lot in music, but I can’t think of anything else to call this.

Woodkid isn’t getting the attention he deserves for creating work like this, and it is one of the biggest shames in music today.

“Run Boy Run” is EP with three remixes. You’ve heard the original tune, but we here at Pop! Bang! Boom! Are always interested in hearing remixes, so here’s a treat: the entire four song EP in a playlist, for your listening pleasure.

The remixes are from the likes of SebastiAn (whom I love dearly), Tepr, and Ostend. Nothing here is bad. Not even a little.
