9.17.12 - New Music - Lifehouse and Natasha Beddingfield
Rock(ish) band Lifehouse have gotten soft on their new single. The track, called “Between the Raindrops” features Natasha Bedingfield.
I was bummed when I heard about this collaboration, as I thought it was a grab for both of them at publicity. Neither one of their recent albums did very well, so why not feature with each other and get some press out of it? I was pleasantly surprised to see that the song really works though. It is a bit cheesy, but tell me the last time you heard a duet that wasn’t. This is a catchy drum-driven number from Lifehouse that even brings in a Western-sounding guitar at the end that is a clever choice. It is interesting to see them continuing down a poppier route, kind of like “You and Me”, only with a bit more to the actual music. Natasha doesn’t sound out of place here either. Her vocals compliment well, and at times you almost think Ellie Goulding has stepped into the studio. The song isn’t a stunner, but it’s a fun number that is one of the few duets between known pop names per year that actually doesn’t suck (remember that fucking awful Kid Rock/Sheryl Crow one a few years back?). Kudos on making it work you two. No word yet on if the single will appear on either Lifehouse’s or Natasha’s new albums, but both are due for one. |
