8.9.12 - New Music - Ellie Goulding

It turns out that “Hanging On”, the new Ellie Goulding song I wrote about a little while ago, is not the lead single from her upcoming sophomore album ‘Halycon’.

The real lead single (you tricked us, “Hanging On”!) is called “Anything Could Happen”, and here it is.

The video was created by fans submitting 1200 Instagrammed photos, and then lyrics were inserted here and there. Lyric videos are the new thing, and they are quickly becoming more and more creative. I have to say, this was a pretty good one.

I’ve been waiting on baited breath for the new Ellie Goulding, and to be honest, I’m a little disappointed. Something about the lyrics doesn’t quite strike me right. I love the chorus, but the rest of it…? Well, I don’t want to say anything too nasty, because the song is still good. But, compared to essentially everything off her debut ‘Lights’? Not the same level.

Anyways, I love the sound, and I am sure that it will be carried throughout the album. Think of that bit after all the “Anything Could Happen”s – can you imagine an album of pop wonderfulness, centered around those sounds? Its probably going to be too much for us to handle. Everyone get in your shelters now.

I read a few of the comments on the Youtube page, and I think one user sums it up pretty well:

“Its an ok song, not the best Ellie has come out with. Still LOVE the pants off her tho!”
(I didn’t correct the “tho”, and you better believe that took a lot of willpower)

“Anything Could Happen” isn’t available yet, and no word yet on when it will be. The album will be out (in the UK at least) October 8th, so we’re getting close!
