8.28.12 - New Music - Boys Like Girls
Pop-punkers Boys Like Girls have reseurfaced (it hasn’t been that long – their last single was only back in 2010, but the last one we remember, the Taylor Swift-assisted “Two Is Better Than One” was out in 2009), and they’ve brought an EP with them. It seems the new trend this year is to put out an EP with a few songs from your new album to see how everyone likes it. Then a few months later, give the public the full thing. The EP can have a single which may or may not take off, and you don’t have to explain yourself if it doesn’t work. We’ve seen this from Vicci Martinez, Sara Bareilles and Owl City, and now BLG.
The single off the ‘Crazy World’ EP is called “Be Your Everything”. I’m really, really disappointed with this single. It sounds like an old (or even worse – current) Backstreet Boys love song. There is no semblance of anything pop-punk in this, just watered down pop with tired, boring, overly sugary-sweet-lovey lyrics. This has no personality, and it’s a poor grab at a charting. The song only came out a month ago, and it is already ranked #3,500 on Amazon’s paid downloads. That’s sad. I really can’t imagine who would want to listen to this. Even when BSB puts something like this out, their old fans can grab on to it. Boys Like Girls followers are going to be even more bummed about this than a duet with Taylor Swift (what WAS that?). At the end of the day, this is really just bad. Best part - this came out a month ago. Have you heard anyone mention it? Anywhere? Better get to work on vamping up the album boys, cuz this shit ain't gonna cut it. |
