8.21.12 - New Music - Taio Cruz
Yep, that’s right, I’m writing my “new music” segment about the same artist two days in a row. Why? Two reasons.
First, he released two singles in the span of one month. I think that’s a tad bit silly, and I wanted to point that out.
Second, I wanted you to be able to hear how similar the two are. I’m starting to hear a pattern in Taio Cruz’s music, and I don’t love it.
“Fast Car” (don’t worry, it is not a Tracy Chapman cover as I was first dreading)
Now go listen to his other song “World in Our Hands”. You know, that thing I posted about yesterday.
Don’t they all seem…too alike? Or…something? And then when you think back to “Dynamite” and “Break Your Heart (ft. Ludacris)” from his first album, you start to see that Taio might just not have anything left up his sleeve that we haven’t already heard.
Not that there aren’t a number of artists doing that sort of thing out there, but reinvention and newness are qualities that everyone loves, and I’m not seeing any of that here.
