8.20.12 - New Music - Taio Cruz

Taio Cruz’s third album came out back in 2011 in certain territories (parts of Europe mostly), but he is pulling a Nicole Scherzinger and reworking it for other parts of the world. Only problem is, no matter how much music he releases, none of it sticks in the US – a market he was successful in a few times and does not want to let go of, and a few have only been moderately successful in his home country, the UK.

His last album contained a song called “World In Our Hands” which was picked by (who?) as the “official Olympic song” (how “official” was this?). The song came out in late July, and since then has – wait for it – peaked at #7 in Germany, and THAT’S IT.

I don’t love that this was an official Olympics song, as it wasn’t even written for the Olympics. The song was released on his album that came out back in 2011, so it clearly wasn’t tailor-made for the games. If any event can grab an artist to write them a one-off spectacular single, it’s gotta be the Olympics.

A missed chance I guess.

Oh, and the song is pretty boring.

“World in Our Hands” is not available in the US.
