8.1.12 - New Music - Gym Class Heroes and Oh Land

The more I listen to the new Gym Class Heroes (or more realistically the more I listen to the singles off the new Gym Class Heroes album), the less and less it feels like Gym Class Heroes the band and the more it feels like Travie McCoy and all his friends.

We’ve heard from big names Adam Levine (“Stereo Hearts”) and Ryan Tedder (“The Fighter”), and the lesser-known Neon Hitch (“Ass Back Home”). Now they’re shifting back to artists that aren’t as well known, at least not in the US. New single “Life Goes On” features Swedish pop singer Oh Land (who we love). Hopefully this will do big things for her.

To be honest, “Life Goes On” is definitely a fourth single. It isn’t as great as the other three (in terms of power or radio-prowess), but I don’t want to say anything too bad about it. For a fourth single (by the way – did anyone else think they would never see the day that the Gym Class Heroes managed four US radio singles from one album? Before this album, they had only charted three times in their entire discography, and this CD has had three top 30 hits. Go GCH!), it really ain’t that shabby. We’ve all known some CDs that couldn’t muster a third or even second single.

I would love to see this song do moderately well (bottom half of the Hot 100 would be fair, but who knows, maybe the high that the band is riding will carry them up), but if not, no shame in only having three big singles of an album.

And if nothing else, hello America, this is Oh Land. Google her or something.

Note: Apparently this was released as a promotional single before the album came out. BUT, I have heard it is coming out as the fourth single. So…we’ll see?
