7.4.13 - New Music - Bonnie McKee

You may not know the name Bonnie McKee yet…that is, unless you’re one the biggest pop stars on the planet.

Bonnie has made her way as a songwriter, penning hits for Katy Perry (“California Gurls”, “Last Friday Night”, “Teenage Dream”, “Part of Me”, “Wide Awake”), Taio Cruz (“Dynamite”), Rita Ora (“How We Do”), Ke$ha (“C’Mon”), and Britney Spears (“Hold It Against Me”), among many, many others.

It may be time for Bonnie to shine on her own, as the lead single from her upcoming as-yet-untitled album has just dropped. “American Girl” could easily have been written for Katy Perry, which also means that it is catchy as hell and ready for radio.

Had this gotten the best promotion and been released a few months before, this could have been the song of the summer. The initial video has the likes of Adam Lambert, Joan Rivers, Kelly Osbourne, Lance Bass, and of course Ke$ha and Perry singing along.

With friends like these, I have a hard time believing she won’t be a star any day now.
