7.31.12 - New Music - The Script and Will.I.Am

Irish pop rockers The Script are really hard workers. Their first two albums came out within two years of each other, and here we are two years later, and they are prepping to release their third album (appropriately titled ‘#3’)  exactly two years after their second, ‘Science & Faith’. No, really, like, on the same day and everything (September 10th, for those looking for some adult contemporary pop rock to purchase in the next month or so).

Lead single “Hall of Fame” has been teased, and it is out (in lyric video form) now. I like The Script, so yes, I did like this single. They have never been my favorite group, but it is hard not to at least momentarily enjoy what they put out. They are making some of the safest, most easily listenable tunes out there today. Kind of like Coldplay, only not as grand. I wonder is a record label put these boys together somewhere…

Sadly, “Hall of Fame” features Will.I.Am, which can never be a good sign. When I first saw this, I was worried. The Script and Will.I.Am? That’s going to sound terrible!

It doesn’t. Somehow Will finds a way to work in this track. He doesn’t stand out like I thought he would (like a sore, sore thumb). Unfortunately, you can tell he is on this even if you just read the lyrics.

“Be believers
Be leaders
Be astronauts
Be champions
Be true seekers”

Be true seekers? If you tell me someone other than Will.I.Am wrote that (and other assorted terrible lyrics throughout the song) I at first won’t believe you, and then will be upset that there is someone (or there are some people) out there working as songwriters as terrible as Will.

Anyways, the song is still pretty good, so let’s not try to focus on the negative.

“Hall of Fame (ft. Will.I.Am)” isn’t available until August 19th (at least in Ireland – no word yet about the US).
