7.21.12 - New Music - Passion Pit
Passion Pit, the Boston-based electropop/synthpop/indie rock fivesome are making their grand return, and here’s their first new single.
Passion Pit found quite a bit of success with their 2009 debut ‘Manners’, as the album made its way up to #51 in the US and #55 in the UK without really having a charting single in either country. The group are clearly aiming for even more success, as it seems their new sound is a lot more mainstream than their first album. “Take A Walk” is good, but it sounds like a grab for alternative radio play. No shame in trying to keep your success going, and the song is still very good. “Take A Walk” sounds almost like a different band inspired by Passion Pit, rather than their own team. It also sounds like someone has been listening to Arcade Fire’s ‘The Suburbs’ a bit too much, as the lyrics are reminiscent of the whole mentality that the Album of the Year-winner is based off of. Lines about bills needing to be paid and Dad making bad investments fill the song, and the video is shot possible in suburban Massachusetts? Who can tell – they all kind of look the same. Anyways, good to have the boys back, and I’m sure their second album ‘Gossamer’ will do fine when it comes out in late July. PS – the video about the ball bouncing around? Cute. |
