6.21.12 - New Music - Owl City and Carly Rae Jepsen
Easily the song of the week.
I am glad to see that Owl City is looking to make big hits again. As much as I loved his last EP, it wasn’t going to make waves on radio. This single, the lead off is upcoming full length LP (out in August - that was fast!) might just bring him back to the Hot 100 (WHERE HE DESERVES TO BE!!!). Adding Carly Rae, the star of the summer probably didn’t hurt either. The two of them are a natural pair, both being unbelievably catchy and poppy without trying too hard or falling into typical popstar stereotypes. I am glad Carly is here, as it gives her a chance to keep going with more singles, as I don’t see US audiences taking as kindly to the rest of her ‘Curiosity EP’ as I did. Also, I was worried for a while that once Owl City joined up with some big-name producers he might lose those special qualities that made him so wonderful. While “Good Time” isn’t as fantastical and whimsical as some of his other tracks, it is still true to who he is and his sound. PHEW! “Good Time” is an all-around feel good anthem for summer, and I really couldn’t love it more. Everything here works. Even the children’s choir at the end (I do love a good children’s choir in a pop song). The song isn’t available yet (on sale June 26th), and I am freaking out I can’t buy it yet.
