6.20.12 - New Music - Matchbox 20
Rob Thomas and the boys of Matchbox 20 are back with their new single “She’s So Mean” off their upcoming ‘North’.
‘North’ is their first real new album in ten years (wow). In that decade, they did release ‘Exile On Mainstream’, which was seven new songs and a greatest hits collection at the same time. I guess you could count that as a new…EP? But I wouldn’t say it was a whole new CD on its own. It did spawn the single “How Far We’ve Come” which made it all the way to #11. “She’s So Mean” shows that while Rob Thomas may have left to record two solo albums and it has been a while, the group hasn’t lost a beat. The single is rocking and features the all-too-wonderful songwriting from Mr. Thomas. It may not be their most memorable moment, but I’m just really glad they’re back. Sadly, I don’t see mainstream top 40 picking this up. There are too many other things going on, and if The Fray’s push of their single “Heartbeat” to little success has taught us anything, it is that right now it’s all dance. Sure, the song will find success, but I am not sure it will meet its MB20 predecessors. No matter, they’re back, and come September 4th we’ll be graced with a fifth album. Lovely. |
