5 Questions With - Erin McCarley

Picture
Erin McCarley (who you know by now from our review of her new album ‘My Stadium Electric’) answered an email from P!B!B! some time ago, and it is high time I posted this thing!

I’ve been a fan of Erin since her first album, so it was a treat for me to get to ask her some questions and feature her on the site.

PS – special thanks to P!B!B! contributor Harry for throwing in some questions as well.

1. Originally your lead single was supposed to be "Elevator," (which is awesome in its own right) but you've decided to go in a different direction and lead with "Just Another Day" – what inspired you to make the switch?

2. Can we expect your sophomore album to be more in the vein of your first or more like "Just Another Day"?

-- The latter. "My Stadium Electric" represents a coming to. Also brings out my extroverted side. I poke fun at myself. The first record was a very "drawing from within" and "serious conversation". Since then, I've tapped into a different angle of my personality. The new music is definitely a progression from the first. I've learned not to take myself so seriously; I've had a lot of touring experience now and I wanted this record to represent who I was becoming and who I wanted to be on stage. I feel these songs give people a go-ahead to speak their mind and have fun while doing so. Musically, you'll hear Brazilian percussion, more guitar driven songs, and overall feel a sense of greater ambition.

3. What can you tell us about your upcoming EP "The Boys Club?"

- "The Boys Club EP"  includes a few of the songs off of My Stadium Electric. Itunes is releasing it exclusively and you'll be able to get a free track as well called Amber Waves.  The release is August 21st.

4. For those who have no idea who you are, describe yourself in five words (and none of them are allowed to be "erin" or "mccarley".

- Goofy, Animal Lover, Spiritual, Intuitive, Stubborn

5. (I ask this of everyone) What are some acts that you are listening to right now that we should all go out and try?

- Brazilian Girls! , Jessie Baylin's  "Little Spark", Escondido "The Ghost of Escondido"(late 2012), Fiona Apple's new record, Santogold

As mentioned, ‘My Stadium Electric’ is a solid second album, and I highly suggest you all go and give it a listen (if not just buy it outright based on my advice, of course).

Erin is on Facebook too. Say hi!
