5 Questions With - Dev

Of all the people labeled an “artist to watch”, Dev is leading the pack. After breaking out on Far East Movement’s “Fly Like A G6”, she has been everywhere – featured singles, her own, videos – everywhere! After a long wait, Dev is finally ready to push her album, which is shaping up to be one the most shameless pop/dance/electro albums of the year (and please don’t take that as a bad thing).
Dev was nice enough to give me a moment of her time to be a part of our “5 Qs With…” bit that we here like to do. Wasn’t that nice of her, and after I haven’t always been the nicest critic (I have had some choice words for her music in the past, but we are letting bygones be bygones)?
1. Ok, honestly, who owes who more: Far East Movement owes you, or you owe them? "Fly Like A G6" helped launch your name, but you really owned that song.
I mean, you said enough right there!
2. Why all the album pushbacks? Some of us have been holding on to the edge of our seats in anticipation!
I was falling in love and becoming a mom. "in the dark" was growing like crazy, and i was celebrating life. pushing the album was necessary and great because now I'm ready to tour for this amazing album.
3. We're used to you being the party animal, but in songs like <a href="http://popbangboom.blogspot.com/2012/01/new-music-dev.html">"Dancing Shoes"</a> we get to see another side of you. Does the album have more of that in store?
Of course. This album is my introduction, I told a bunch of stories. I'm from a small town, I fell in love, I was part of massive songs, I'm Mexican and Portuguese, I like beer, Im the swag champ, and you can tell all of this in the album.
4. The past few years have been a massive upward spiral for you. How do you handle that and still keep your life together (any advice for all of us aspiring stars)?
I'm from the complete opposite end of the spectrum from all of this, I think my upbringing, my family, the cataracs, and my boo all help me stay sane when shit gets crazy lol
5. (I ask this of everyone) What are some artists or bands that you are listening to right now that we should all try out?
Lately I've been listening to mainly Rick Ross.
Dev’s debut album “The Night The Sun Came Up” is available on March 26th in the US, but it is up for <a href="http://www.amazon.com/The-Night-Sun-Came-Explicit/dp/B007K8DDV8/ref=sr_1_1?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1332168801&sr=1-1">preordering now</a>.
