5 QUESTIONS WITH - JORDIN SPARKS
It’s been a hot minute since we’ve heard from one Ms. Jordin Sparks, and I for one am rather sad about that. I like her quite a bit, and I can’t wait for her to come back. Well, it looks like that comeback is coming very, very soon. She actually just released a mixtape the other day as a taste of what she’s been working on and what we can expect from her third full length album, which she says is coming early next year. Apparently she’s been working this whole time, but her label wouldn’t let her release any of it. Booo labelsss. Anyway, she’s moved on to a new imprint, where she’s working with famed producer Salaam Remi (who has crafted big hits for people like Amy Winehouse and Nas), and she’s ready to step back into the spotlight, and away from certain men who she no longer needs... |
Tell me how far along the album is and when we can expect it.
The album is done, but I never stop recording, so if a good song comes along sometime before the album comes out I might swap a song. What we wanted to do was give a little sampler of the album with the mixtape and let everyone know what it would sound like. Fans will be getting full length versions of most of the songs on the mixtape as well as some brand new ones.
Expect it probably first quarter 2015. The album is called Right Here Right Now.
And what does that mean to you?
I recorded a song called “Right Here Right Now”, which is a little bit sexy and a little bit vibey and I really love it. Right Here Right Now represents what I'm going through in my life. I'm putting out new music right here right now. I'm having fun, I'm coming into my own, I'm stepping into my sexuality right here right now. Everything is right here right now.
It also refers to how I think and how I see things. We can't worry about yesterday, and we can't worry about tomorrow. We can only worry about right here right now. It applies in all areas of my life.
The song on your mixtape “How About Now”--have you heard from Drake about that?
No I haven't actually. I wonder if he's heard it. That would be interesting.
I bet he would like it. Drake seems like the kind of guy who would be down to hear people’s remixes of his songs.
Yeah maybe, or he'd really hate it. I think he would either really like it or really hate it.
What are you listening to now?
The other night I was listening to the radio and I heard Kalin and Myles. Do you know the song “Love Robbery”?
I don't.
I think it's played more on urban stations. They have this song called “Trampoline”, and its so much fun. At first I wasn't sure if I really liked it or was confused by it, but I love it. The new Big Sean single for sure. I'm listening to that a ton. I still listen to Bruno Mars and Boyz to men a lot. Elijah Blake too. I've been listening to Fifth Harmony as well. Frankie Valli and Florida Georgia line. I've got a ton of people that I listen to. Also John Mayer and Jhene Aiko.
When I first heard the new Fifth Harmony song I actually thought it would have been a great Jordin Sparks single.
It actually sounded very familiar to me as well! I loved it! It's a great power ballad. Don't worry, there's going to be some of those on the new album as well. I wouldn't forget. I can't leave those in the dust, no way.
