4.18.12 - New Music - Adam Lambert
Unlike many Idol alums, Adam Lambert has managed to stay very, very relevant. This is really surprising, as most people who are on the show – even some of those who win (cough RUBEN STUDDARD cough) don’t make it to superstardom. At least not for long. Also of consideration is the fact that Adam’s debut album ‘For Your Entertainment’ didn’t have a huge single. The album spawned three charting singles, of which only one made it to the top 10 (peaking at #10 – the Pink-penned “Whataya Want From Me”). This was way back in 2009, too, so it has been just a little while.
The first single off of his “I’m not a one album guy” comeback wasn’t the massive hit it should have been. “Better Than I Know Myself” peaked at a paltry #76, and many people have already forgotten about it. Just as I was getting ready to count this one out, Lambert releases his second single, “Never Close Our Eyes”. I am really digging the sound, and I think it is refreshingly different from the usual Top 40 type of electro pop. I will admit that the song isn’t my favorite thing in the world, but the music really gets me going and I know that if this thing hits a dancefloor everyone will go nuts. I wonder how this will fare on the US charts. I didn’t expect any of the singles from his last album to do terribly well (especially “Whataya Want From Me”, which I actually dislike a lot), and I was mostly right. I don’t see this reaching the tops of the Hot 100, but I do think that this gives us a better taste as to what his sophomore album ‘Trespassing’ will sound like. |
