4.1.13 - New Music - Martin Solveig & The Cataracs

After his producing stint for Madonna’s latest (flop), Martin Solveig is ready to step into the spotlight once again. The French DJ is prepping his fifth album, and though I can’t tell you when it’s coming out or what it may be called, I can say that there is a song out that is from it, and with how good it is and the buzz it is already getting, it is probably a lead single.

“Hey Now” is typical Solveig – dancey, upbeat pop production with just a little something else thrown in there for spice. His lyrics are delightfully banal, which is hard to pull off (but somehow he always does). “Hey Now” is suspiciously close to “Hello”, his breakout single featuring Dragonette, but we’ll let it slide. If this had featured the Canadian trio, I’d be more concerned.

The Cataracs guest on vocals, and judging by the electro origins of the drop, I could see them having had a say in the production, although it maintains Solveig’s style through and through. I don’t know who “Kyle” is (and that’s actually a terrible name for a singer – imagine trying to google him?), but his vocals do work.

A great start to summer, since most people won’t hear this until June.
