3.22.13 - New Music - Jessica Sanchez

For those who already don't remember, Jessica Sanchez came in second place on the eleventh season of American Idol (right behind Phillip Phillips). She has been working on music ever since, and though we've heard a few new tracks, nothing has stood out.

Finally it is time to get the promotion of this debut album (titled 'Me, You, & the Music') going. Lead single "Tonight" is out now and features Ne-Yo on writing and singing duties. StarGate took over production, so you can already imagine that this thing is radio-ready.

The track is catchy and fairly good, but I can't help feeling that something doesn't quite fit. Jessica looks uncomfortable in her shiny 90's Spice Girls pants and her midriff-baring top. We've seen this sex appeal thing on every girl in the last ten years, and Jessica is doing it worse than most.

Also, it isn't the typical music that bothers me so much as the lyrics. Why does she need to be singing about guys having money and all her girls? I don't get the impression that Jessica is the kind of girl who knows  much about these things. I'm fine with her doing Top 40 pop - even if there's nothing groundbreaking about it - but did she have to go this deep into the "I need a hit" mud?
