3.10.13 - New Music - Jay Sean
Jay Sean is one of many pop stars we are watching desperately claw their way back to some semblance of success. Everyone loved his breakout US hit “Down” (which featured Lil Wayne and went to #1), and sure he had a few after that, but then things went downhill – and fast.
That was all three or four years ago, and since then Sean hasn’t exactly been silent, but I don’t think people have been listening. Or, if they were, they aren’t now. Since promotion of his last album ended, Jay has actually released EIGHT singles. Each time the world is serviced with another track, we hear how a new album is closer and closer, and then when any of those tracks fail to do tremendously well, a project is renamed, designated elsewhere or scrapped. He has released a “Greatest Hits”, an EP and a mixtape, all with singles that were meant for a new album (which has in and of itself changed names three times now). “Where You Are” is one of the poorer excuses for these singles. In fact, it is so blandly pop and forgettable that I’ll leave you with the fact that I’d rather discuss scrapped albums and a mixtape than the “official” first single of this supposed new LP (we’ll see). |
