2.8.13 - New Music - Fall Out Boy
After a five year hiatus that saw lead singer Patrick Stump release a highly-praised pop(ish) album that sold poorly, Pete Wentz and Ashlee Simpson have a baby and get divorced, and not much else, Fall Out Boy are back. And boy are they ever.
The group returns to the scene with a bang, releasing a song called “My Songs Know What You Did In The Dark (Light Em Up)”. Only Fall Out Boy or Panic! At The Disco could get away with such a title, and they always do. The song has really unique production, mostly in the odd vocal sample that is repeated in the beginning and the breakdown. Also new: the glam-rock-esque refrain of “I’m on fireee!” in the chorus. “My Songs…” is all rock, and previews the band’s sixth album ‘Save Rock and Roll’ (appropriately titled). The video barely features the group, instead focusing on rapper 2 Chainz and his female cronies kidnapping the band and burning their instruments and past records, thus symbolizing rap’s overtaking rock as the predominant genre. I didn’t know that I would love their new song, but I can’t stop playing it. It really is a spectacular return. |
