2.24.13 - New Music - Skrillex
I don’t focus too much on artists making music for advertisements, but when it is Skrillex, you better believe I’ll listen.
“The Art of Raw” is a new tune that the six-time Grammy winner created just for the denim brand, and the ad is very impressive visually. The video shows an artistic rendering of a pair of jeans being created, and then fitted onto a…skeleton dog? I’m not quite sure what it means, but it fits the sound and the persona of Skrillex very well. I’m beginning to think that the ad was crafted around Skrillex, rather than him crafting music for an already-established ad campaign. The song is what I’d call “dubstep-flat”. The whole thing sounds very snare-heavy and compressed, which is something new for the usually bass-dropping and bombastic EMD star. I’ve never heard anything quite like this from him, and I’m very impressed. You should watch the video and then listen to the entire track, as I know your interest will have been peaked. |
