2.21.13 - New Music - The Script
‘#3’ – the latest album from Irish pop rocks The Script – is now on its third single. I just want to point out how significant it is that the album is named ‘#3’ and that it now has three releases. The only thing that could make this better is if the song were called something like “threesome”, or if they had covered Britney Spears’ “3” from all those years ago.
(Un)Fortunately that is not the case, and the track that they did pick is a lot more up their alley. “If You Could See Me Now” features a very radio-friendly Script-like chorus, but things have been shaken up on the verses. Lead singer Danny O’Donoghue spits his verses like he was a rapper, and it’s a little unsettling. He does so in a speak-singing fashion that reminds us of Ke$ha or Will.I.Am (with whom the group recently collaborated), and while it isn’t out of the realm of possible, it’s not the band’s best work. Neither is the song in general, but for me nothing will top “The Man Who Can’t Be Moved”. Man, let’s hope that “3” Britney Spears/The Script thing absolutely does(n’t ever) happen. |
