1.8.13 - New Music - Lawson
After four singles in one year, you’d think that the UK might be a bit tired of pop-rockers Lawson.
Well, perhaps they are, as “Learn To Love Again”, the fourth single from ‘Chapman Square’ didn’t quite crack the top ten (as the previous three did). Or perhaps it is because this turn of singledom sounds much more like…well…some other group than Lawson. Usually their sound is a lot more guitar-heavy, whereas I don’t think I can hear a single actual instrument on this track. A full band is replaced by smooth production and stadium-filling-quality backing choirs and EDM-esque buildups. The song sounds like it was demoed with a band and then produced by Max Martin and Steve Angello’s offspring. Having said all that, it isn’t half bad. Not the best, and there is a lot going on, but still powerful enough to grab my ear for a few minutes. |
