12.16.12 - New Music - Major Lazer and Flux Pavilion
Major Lazer never does anything bad. Never.
Their new single (I say “their” because it has historically been a duo, but I know that the other member left recently…not sure if he was replaced or not…) is a killer. You have to respect ML on several levels. First, he makes great music. Period. Second, he (I guess I’ve switched to he now; he is Diplo, by the way) produces things that have never been done before. I’m talking about sounds and samples and this, that, and the other things that haven’t been used in popular music…and he makes them WORK. Third, he creates music that makes you fucking RAGE. Some people make EDM that’s interesting or fun, but the power of Major Lazer is undeniable and everyone can feel it. Fourth, he’s cuteee. “Jah No Partial” (no, I don’t know what it means) is just another in a long series of tracks that are incredible. It is hard, unique, and unlike anything I’ve ever heard before. That lazer-esque sample in the chorus (not the first time he’s used that – hence the name) comes out of nowhere and somehow stands out and blends in perfectly? I don’t know how the man (or men) does it, but goddamn I don’t know what I’d do without it. |
