12.16.11 - New Music - Lil Mama

The African American population has brought so many words into the mainstream that otherwise most of us never would have known. The language is ever changing, and the ebonics and slang that is mostly created by the African American community of America is mostly responsible for the constant evolution of the English language (there are an estimated 2,500 new words added to English-language dictionaries every year).

Well, it seems that there is a new one for us all to learn and awkwardly find a way to attempt to work into our daily vocabulary. That word is ‘scrawberry’.

Yes, ‘scrawberry’. What exactly is a ‘scrawberry’? Well, let’s break it down.

First, a berry: “any small, usually stoneless, juicy fruit, irrespective of botanical structure”. Thanks, Random House, Inc. Unabridged English Dictionary, 2011.

Next, a scraw. Well, it seems that there are several definitions for this new word, some of which are questionable when pushed together with berry:

1. a "Go-To" WHITE friend
2. all things bad
3. the ring around your crotch
4. The act of mating with your sister, mother, and getting rear ended by your father at the same time

Now, let’s put it all together.

‘Scrawberry’: any small, ‘go-to’ white, usually stoneless ring around your crotch that is juicy and often mates with both your mother and sister at the same time, all irrespective of botanical structure.

Ok then. Now you know.

So, do me a solid – listen to Lil Mama’s new single, “Scrawberry”, and tell me if my definition seems fitting.
