12.11.12 - New Music - Melanie Amaro

Melanie Amaro just can’t make this work, can she?

The winner of The X Factor US season one has now put out three “singles” (after the first one failed they tried to make everyone forget about it; the song isn’t even on her album), and none of them have done anything. I believe her last one did something on the dance charts, but that isn’t what Simon Cowell & co are looking for. Simon really wanted The X Factor to surpass American Idol, and he was so sure it was going to.

Well, so far, it’s looking like his show doesn’t have…wait for it…wait for it…THE X FACTOR. Ouch.

Amaro is a great vocalist, and she’s a cute girl, but the songs have been lacking. Her newest, “Long Distance”, would have been better suited to the early 2000’s (when she was far too young to even be thinking about being a popstar) than it is to today’s Top 40 climate.

The song itself isn’t bad, but it is lacking. I wouldn’t mind if this were an album track, but I can’t support this being a real single. If she has any hope of making it big (the chances of which dwindle every time she puts out a single like this), she’s really got to step up her production and songwriting game.
