12.10.12 - New Music - Austin Mahone and Flo Rida
I wrote about the young and too-adorable-for-someone-who-is-16 Austin Mahone this past summer, and I’m happy to be doing so again. Not necessarily because he is making revolutionary pop music (or even tunes that are that great), but because he is adorbs, and I (for some reason) just want him to make it. You know, in a Disney star kind of way.
Austin has a new single out, this time with the help of Flo Rida. I think he’s hoping that Flo’s name will help propel him to fame. Little does he know how much that isn’t going to help. The single is essentially a cover of Biz Markie’s famous “Just A Friend”. Don’t remember it? Yes you do: The song peaked at #9 in the US in 1989, or way before Mahone was even born (ugh, that makes me hate myself). I know that some people will hate that he essentially recycled this song, but that’s the new thing. Everyone is doing it, and as long as proper credit is given and dues are paid, I guess all is well. “Say You’re Just A Friend” is cute, and it works. The song will do well among younger crowds, and hopefully Mahone will be coming to a mall near you real soon! |
