Everything this girl puts out is perfection.
The song is the fifth single from her smash debut album ‘Our Version of Events’, and boy is it a way to go out. The album was recently re-released in the UK, where it has become the best-selling album of the year. “Clown” was on the original edition, but a new single helps keep her name in the spotlight, and thus keeps the album selling. Yes, the song is old (“old”), but it is just now getting the single treatment in the UK, so what better time to write about it. And bow will I take any excuse to write about Emeli. The song is about her experiences when she was trying to be signed, and the video shows just that. It’s a powerful, understated song, and obviously beautiful. Sande is a stunning artist, and “Clown” is just another in a long line of perfect singles. Here’s to hoping the UK charts treat it well. |
