11.8.12 - New Music - All-American Rejects

The All-American Rejects have had a bit of a tough year. Their new album ‘Kids In The Street’ has not performed as their last LPs have. The two singles thus far – “Beekeeper’s Daughter” and “Kids In The Street” both have missed the Hot 100, and that doesn’t say great things for the album’s commercial appeal.

Well, time to go for number three.

It’s a shame that the album and it’s singles aren’t doing well, because I actually really liked where they went with this CD. I have always liked what AAR have put out, and while ‘KITS’ was a partial departure in terms of sound and style, I applauded their risk-taking. “Heartbeat Slowing Down” doesn’t have that special something that makes a hit single, but I still think it’s a good song. It sounds almost like their past single “It Ends Tonight”, but perhaps more heartfelt.

So, will this break their unsuccessful streak? Probably not, but this entire album sounds like the band shaking off the pressure of having radio hits and just making great music. “Heartbeat Slowing Down” fits in perfectly with that idea.
