11.6.12 - New Music - Ludacris, Usher, and David Guetta
Is Ludacris like, even in this song?
Ludacris switches things up and joins the bandwagon for his new single “Rest of My Life”. The song is 100% dance-pop and 0% hip-hop. Even his vocals (when you get them) aren’t hip-hop. He’s just…I don’t know…talking. Usher joins in for the chorus, but he seems to be in a lot more than just that. Is it just me, or does Usher’s part seem to be longer and more important than Luda’s? Usher is big on this dance thing, what with his “Scream” and “Numb” singles. He is trying to be the biggest in R&B and dance. Much like Chris Brown…only a better singer. Oh, and David Guetta gets a feature in here because he produced it. I wonder what charts and history would look like if other producers got the same treatment years ago. So many of Guetta’s charting singles are not actually his own (and I don’t mean “not his own” like he sang the chorus or rapped a guest verse – he just produced and perhaps wrote something for the song, and all of a sudden he has a fair share in it). I don’t really care for the song. It’s fine enough, but we’ve heard this sort of thing before, and I think it is too generic. The mainstream might snap something like this up though. Time will soon tell. |
