11.4.13 - New Music - Britney SpearsBritney Spears is certainly looking to make her ‘Britney Jean’ album a success, isn’t she? As if it weren’t going to be anyways…
After the lackluster charting and sales of lead single “Work Bitch” (it only reached #12 in the US--making this CD her first in the last four to not have a top ten hit proceed it’s release), not only is America’s favorite pop star releasing a second single before the album drops, but she is completely changing direction. “Perfume” is, in her words, her “most personal” song yet. The track is a mid-tempo, slower jam--not unlike her previous track “Don’t Let Me Be The Last To Know”. Instead of the usual over-the-top confidence and bravado, Britney is unusually exposed, and you can hear it in the lyrics (penned by Sia) and her performance, which is easily one of her better ones in recent memory. This sounds like it’s destined for the lower ranks of the top 40, but to be a critical favorite. |
