11.3.12 - New Music - Far East Movement and Feist
The boys of Far East Movement are really doing everything they can to make their latest ‘Dirty Bass’ happen.
“Little Bird” is the fifth official single from their album, and this time it features Canadian singer-songwriter Feist. Sounds like an interesting combination, doesn’t it? Well, it is. “Little Bird” is the electro/dance troupe’s effort to join the new movement to have lesser-known singers feature on dance tracks. Many of the top producers have done it (David Guetta with Sia, Morgan Page with Tegan and Sara, Calvin Harris with Florence Welch of Florence + the Machine, etc.), and the trend seems to be continuing. While I love that Feist kept her trademark vocal sound, I’m not sure that the song really works. Either go all the way and do a hi-octane dance track that still somehow makes use of Feist’s gentle touch, or do something so toned down that it brings you to her level. The music is almost there, but FEM’s lyrics aren’t. Sadly, they are stuck somewhere close to “Rocketeer”, their past hit with Ryan Tedder. The song certainly isn’t bad, but I wouldn’t say that it is on par with the other indie singer-songwriter/dance collaborations we’ve heard recently. |
