New Music - David Guetta & Skylar Grey
I have actually liked the last few songs David Guetta has released, as none of them have done well chart-wise, and they really weren’t meant to. It seems there are now two Guettas—one who is there for danceable radio smashes (“Titanium”, “Without U”. etc.), and the other, who makes interesting electronic music not for the masses.
While I’m sure he’s hard at work on his next record (which is sure to play like a “Now That’s What I Call Music” compilation), we’ve been hearing a bit more of David #2 lately. “Shot Me Down” is his latest composition—somewhere between a cover and a remix of the original sung by Nancy Sinatra. Guetta’s version features Skylar Grey, and it’s actually unclear in parts of the song if he’s sampling Sinatra or if Grey is singing, so the confusion is built in. The song isn’t terribly original, as he only creates something really interesting after the drop for a bit, and the rest is a typical dance remix of the classic tune. |
