11.17.12 - New Music - Sean Kingston and Cher Lloyd

Remember the last time you heard a Sean Kingston song on the radio? Neither can I.

Well, he’s making his way back to the mainstream, and his latest single “Rum and Raybans” might just do it for him.

After taking a little time off and then finding it hard to have another hit instantly, Kingston has teamed up with newcomer Lloyd for the dance/electro affair. Lloyd is having her moment (and hoping to make her own second single happen in this country – the “best friend forever” song “Oath (ft. Becky G)”), and the music is right on target with what is happening these days.

I certainly praise the hard electro feel that you get from the chorus. That breakdown could use a slight pumping up, but the tiny drop before it helps give it a kick, and it does make me wanna rage.

Lloyd’s part seems unnecessary though. Perhaps if it were longer…or…anything? I think Kingston just wanted to get someone on the track to help it’s star power (Kingston’s name has never carried the weight that he has). While the tune is catchy enough, I don’t know that it is quite what he will need to get play on mainstream radio. The song just doesn’t have the oomph it needs. Maybe a remix?
