10.28.12 - New Music - Kristinia Debarge

I don’t think I’ve ever mentioned Kristinia Debarge on this blog, which is a shame. Her debut album ‘Exposed’ wasn’t great, but it did have two songs that I LOVED – “Sabotage” and “Future Love” (which was first recorded by a boy band that never happened in the US). Those singles didn’t fare very well, but her “Goodbye” made it to #15 (you’d remember it if you heard it).

It seems that though her father was (is?) a member of legendary R&B troupe Debarge, Kristinia might not be long for the music world. He album did possibly alright, but this second album just isn’t happening at all. The lead single “Cry Wolf” was released this month, and I barely heard a word about it. And I was listening!

I haven’t heard anything about a second album, either. She’s been too busy working on some movies or something, but I wish she would get back to the music and pump something out – fast!

I didn’t know what to expect from the single, and I am pleasantly surprised. The song is POP. Not dance, not electro, just POP, and I love it for that. It’s a simple message and nothing too groundbreaking, but that doesn’t matter. Kristinia does it fairly well, and that’s what we want from her.

Not only that, but the video is pretty as well. I enjoy her moves on the dance floor; she isn’t just trying to look as sexy as she can. Rather, Kristinia’s (and her backup dancer’s) moves are ballet-inspired. When’s the last time we saw that?

Well done Kristinia. I’m now a bit more excited for the sophomore album than I already was.
