10.13.12 - New Music - Justin Bieber and Nicki Minaj

A. I told you all that this was going to be a single!
B. This makes me confused as to whether or not his laptop/camera/whatever was actually stolen or not.
C. I actually really like this video.

From when I first reviewed the Biebs’ new album ‘Believe’, it was pretty clear that this was going to be a single. How could it not? It has everything a song needs to succeed on top 40 radio these days: a good beat and a Nicki Minaj guest spot. I like that it is the third single too. It should revive the sales of ‘Believe’ (not that the album is hurting you understand).

The video plays off the reports that have been circulating that some footage was stolen from Bieber. Now, this could have been fake and put out by his team to explain and promote the video, or it could have actually happened and they decided to use it. I don’t know which came first, and I don’t care that much. It’s a fun idea either way.

Next: I really like both the song and the video. I think both of them are high-energy, friendly, and super fun. This isn’t the swagger of “Boyfriend” or the dubstep of “As Long As You Love Me”. The video is an 18 year old boy with his friends at a waterpark just having a good time, and the song is just too catchy to be ignored. The Zedd-produced breakdown is perfectly on-trend, and we’re sure to hear more of that in the coming months.

I would say that this is going to be the big single off the album, which is a lot to say, as ‘Believe’ has already had a pair of ten ten charting songs.
